The verdict up top
All three are excellent, and most people would be happy with any of them. Forced to choose per job: Claude (9.1) for writing and careful reasoning; ChatGPT (9.0) for breadth and extras; Gemini (8.8) if you live in Google or routinely work with very large documents. If you can only pay for one and you mostly write, pick Claude; if you want one app that does everything, pick ChatGPT; if your day runs through Gmail and Docs, pick Gemini.

Writing
Claude's clearest edge. Give all three the same brief and Claude's first draft tends to need the least work — less filler, a voice closer to publishable. ChatGPT and Gemini both write competent prose, but on long-form especially they more often carry the faint machine cadence you then edit out. It's not night and day, but if writing is most of your day, the time saved compounds. Advantage Claude.
Large documents
Here Gemini pulls ahead. Its context window will take genuinely enormous inputs and still answer about the specific section you asked for. Claude is also excellent and the one we trust on dense, sensitive material; ChatGPT handles big files well too. But for "read all of this and find the part that matters" at real scale, Gemini is the standout. Advantage Gemini, with Claude close behind.
The mental model: ChatGPT is the deepest toolbox, Claude is the best fountain pen, Gemini is the assistant that's already inside your work.
Coding
ChatGPT and Claude are neck and neck — both explain reasoning, debug well, and write solid functions from a clear prompt. Gemini is strong and a natural fit if your code already lives in Google's tooling, but the two leaders are our first reach for hard problems. If coding is your main use, pair any of them with an in-editor tool like GitHub Copilot. Slight edge to ChatGPT and Claude.
Extras & ecosystem
ChatGPT has the widest set of built-in extras — voice, image generation, data analysis, and a huge marketplace of custom tools. Gemini counters with deep Google integration: it drafts in Docs, summarises in Gmail, and pulls from Drive, which for Google users is worth more than any standalone feature. Claude is the most focused of the three, lighter on extras by design. Pick ChatGPT for breadth of features, Gemini for breadth of integration.
Price
A three-way wash at the entry point: all around $20/month for the plan most people want, each with a free tier worth trying and pricier power-user tiers above. Don't let the expensive top tiers factor into a $20-vs-$20-vs-$20 decision. Full numbers are in our AI pricing comparison and the individual ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini reviews.
Which should you pick?
Pick Claude if…
- You write a lot and care it sounds human
- You work with sensitive or careful material
- Reasoning matters more than extra features
Pick ChatGPT if…
- You want one app for the widest range of tasks
- You'll use voice, images or data analysis
- You're unsure — it's the safest default
Pick Gemini if… your working life already runs on Google, or you regularly drop very large documents in and interrogate them. For those people it's the most natural of the three.
Still torn? Try all three free tiers for a week on your own real work. The right answer is usually obvious within days, and it's about your work, not a benchmark. If it helps narrow things, our ChatGPT vs Claude head-to-head goes deeper on the top two.
Paying for any of them from a restricted country
Whichever you choose, checkout can be the real obstacle abroad — a plan not sold in your country, an unfamiliar billing currency, or a declined card. The compliant routes are the same for all three:
- Check it's offered in your region and respect it if it isn't.
- Pay with a reputable virtual or prepaid card billed in a supported currency.
- Fund that card via a licensed source and keep records.
FAQ
Which is best overall — ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini?
By our scores it's Claude (9.1), then ChatGPT (9.0), then Gemini (8.8) — but they're close, and "best" depends on the job. Claude for writing, ChatGPT for breadth, Gemini for Google users and huge documents.
If I can only pay for one, which?
Mostly write? Claude. Want one app for everything? ChatGPT. Live in Google or handle very large files? Gemini. When unsure, ChatGPT is the safest default.
Is Gemini better than ChatGPT?
For Google-ecosystem users and very large documents, often yes. Outside Google, ChatGPT's breadth gives it the edge. It usually comes down to which apps you already live in.
Do they all cost the same?
At the entry tier, roughly yes — about $20/month each as of June 2026, each with a free tier. Confirm current pricing on the official sites.
